Dr. Holly Chitwood practices as an APRN at the Markey Cancer Center, specializing in medical oncology. Her clinical focus is on gastrointestinal, hepatobiliary, and sarcoma cancers. In addition to her clinical work, Dr. Chitwood is
an assistant professor in the Doctor of Nursing Practice Program at the University of Kentucky and serves as coordinator for the Acute Care Pediatric Nurse Practitioner curriculum.
Dr. Chitwood began her nursing career
in 2006 in the field of pediatric hematology/oncology. She holds a bachelor's degree from the University of the Cumberlands in Kentucky. She completed her MSN with a Family Nurse Practitioner degree in 2015, a post master's Adult
Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner certificate in 2017, her Doctor of Nursing Practice in 2021, and a post-master’s Pediatric Acute Care Nurse Practitioner certificate. She is triple board-certified in family primary care,
adult-gerontology acute care, and pediatric acute care.
Since 2021, she has collaborated on an oncology nurse education program at Markey. She also serves in peer review for the Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) biomarker
database and is president of the local Bluegrass chapter of ONS. Dr. Chitwood is passionate about educating and empowering oncology advanced practice providers and nurses.
