Kelly Haviland, PhD, RN, FNP-BC, TGNB-C, is a nationally recognized healthcare leader, educator, and researcher with a strong commitment to advancing health equity, professional development, and high-quality care for sexual and gender minority populations, particularly within oncology and academic health systems.
Dr. Haviland currently serves as the Director of Nursing, Education, Research, and Wound Care Ostomy Nursing at NYU Langone Hospital—Brooklyn, where she oversees nursing education, orientation, professional development, and nursing research, as well as the wound care ostomy nurse practitioner service. In this role, she leads strategic initiatives that strengthen clinical excellence, workforce development, and evidence-based practice across nursing and advanced practice roles.
Previously, Dr. Haviland served as the Advanced Practice Provider (APP) Manager of Professional Development at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, where she directed more than 30 professional development programs and supported APP practice across the institution. In 2023, she founded the APP Quality Assurance Committee at MSK, establishing a formal structure to advance quality, safety, and accountability in APP practice. That same year, she launched the LGBTQI+ Cancer Care Program at MSK, a pioneering initiative focused on addressing the unique clinical and psychosocial needs of LGBTQI+ individuals with cancer.
Dr. Haviland holds a PhD from the Medical University of South Carolina and has published extensively on LGBTQI+ cancer care and the care of critically ill patients with cancer. She is a faculty member at Rutgers University, where she teaches LGBTQ health, and she regularly presents nationally on health equity, inclusive care models, quality improvement, and advanced practice professional development.
Her work has been recognized with numerous honors, including the Mary Pazdur Award from APSHO (2023) and the National APP of the Year Award (2024). As a member of the APSHO Board of Directors, Dr. Haviland is deeply committed to advancing the organization’s mission to promote equity, excellence, and leadership in healthcare for sexual and gender minority communities.
