DIVERSITY, EQUITY, AND INCLUSION COMMITTEE GOALS AND OBJECTIVES:

The mission of this committee is to guide APSHO in making an intentional effort to ensure diversity and inclusion is present in the work of APSHO and throughout the organization. One of the goals of this committee is to develop advanced practitioner education in order to reduce disparities in health care and help improve health outcomes for our patients and communities. COMMITTEE MEMBER PREREQUISITE(S):

  • Must be an APSHO member in good standing
  • Submission of a committee application, CV and letter of intent

 

ESTIMATED TIME COMMITMENT AND MEETING FORMAT:

  • Preparation for and participation in 4 – 6 conference call meetings per year

 

TERM LIMITS:

DIVERSITY, EQUITY, AND INCLUSION COMMITTEE CHAIR:

The Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee Chairperson is appointed for a 2-year term, spending 1 year as the Chair-Elect, and 2 years as Chair before assuming the position of Past Chair. Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee members are invited to apply for a Chair position by submitting an online application. Applications will be reviewed by the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee Leadership (current Chairperson and Board Liaison) between May 1–15. Committee leaders will then present a ballot to the committee members with candidate(s) for the Chair-Elect position for vote by June 1.

  • Year 1: Chair-Elect
  • Year 2: Chairperson
  • Year 3: Chairperson
  • Year 4: Past Chair

The candidate who receives the majority vote will be immediately appointed as Chair-Elect, and the previous Chair-Elect will transition to the Chair position.

 

DIVERSITY, EQUITY, AND INCLUSION COMMITTEE MEMBERSHIP:

  • Committee members are appointed for 2 years, but those wishing to remain on the committee may do so for an additional 2-year term, totaling a maximum of 4 consecutive years. Time spent as Chair-Elect, Chair, and Past-Chair is not counted toward the member’s maximum term limit of two (2), consecutive 2-year terms.

 

RELATIONSHIP WITH OTHER LEADERSHIP GROUPS:

  • Reports directly to the Board of Directors
  • Collaborates with other APSHO Committees, task forces and subcommittees as necessary

 

2024 DIVERSITY, EQUITY, AND INCLUSION COMMITTEE CHARGE(S):

  • Post review of events such as JADPRO Live
  • Update and maintain the DEI toolkit
  • Develop educational concepts on: diversity, hidden/implicit bias, structural racism, differences between health care disparities and healthcare inequities, trans cancer care, sexual minorities, specific cancers and established disparities, clinical trials not being representative of minorities, understanding cultural differences and (support, counseling, mentoring and tutoring) on clinicians own behavior and behavior of colleagues; history behind structural racism; forum for stories on disparities (patients and APs); Cultural differences; Learning the DEI Language
  • Post 2 to 4 discussion posts to the APSHO Community page (at large), including holiday recognition
  • Suggest potential funding sources for DEI programs and Educator Modules
  • Review of DEI topics throughout the year
  • Select JADPRO Live Planning Committee member for 2024
  • Develop DEI Presentation for JADPRO Live 2024
  • Consider developing 1-2 podcast(s) and/or 1 APSHO Advance article
  • Develop and expand upon a best practice guideline for presenting and publishing with a DEI Lens
