We are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Kelly Rice Lisenbee, DNP, ANP-C, AOCN®, late February from diffuse large B-cell lymphoma. Dr. Lisenbee was a member of the APSHO Board from 2019 to 2020. Our deepest sympathies go to her husband and two
daughters, two stepsons and stepdaughter.
Kelly Lisenbee, DNP, ANP-C, AOCN®, was an advanced practitioner at Duke University Health System in Durham, North Carolina. She has worked for Duke for around 21 years and has held several positions,
including leadership positions. She had more than 26 years of experience in adult oncology with a primary focus in lung cancer. Dr. Lisenbee was a 2018 Duke Johnson and Johnson Fellow, the recipient of the 2004 UNC Chapel Hill School of Nursing
Alumna of the Year award, the Great 100 Nurses of North Carolina award in 2004, and the O’Keefe Award for Excellence in Oncology Nursing given by the Duke Friends of Nursing. In addition to APSHO, she was a member of ASCO, AANP, and Sigma Theta Tau Honor Society. Dr. Lisenbee was also adjunct faculty at the Duke School of Nursing. Some of her passions included survivorship and the emerging field of onco-primary care.
Many of you knew Dr. Kelly Lisenbee as a colleague, mentor,
teacher, or friend. Kelly was a caring, loving person with a beautiful smile. She touched many lives, not only her patients, but students, colleagues, and our APSHO Board. She is known to have said these words to her daughters and this is for us to ponder
– “Fight today to THRIVE Tomorrow.”
